Previously called Port Elizabeth, ( don’t ask how to pronounce the new name), the name changed in 2021 to the Xhosa and Southern Khoe name for the Baakens river that flows through the city. The city’s main exports are manganese and VWs. Wildlife runs amok here; there are many safaris and game reserves. We went to Addo Elephant Park. We also saw ostriches, but I couldn’t get them to pose. These next pictures  are on our ride back. At the end, there are videos of the park.  Videos

East London has a heavy German influence despite its name. The buildings show its English heritage. We went to a beach cliff and a museum.  The museum held many specimens of fish and birds, but also a mold of a Dodo egg (the real one is in a vault) and the first footprints found from over 100,000 years ago. Other sites include a statue of Steve Biko
